7.1 International cooperation
7.1.1 International organizations
ISTIC is an active national member or focal point of a range of international organizations,
including the UNESCO Information for All Program (UNESCO/IFAP), the International
Council of Scientific Unions/ the International Council for Scientific and Technical
Information (ICSU / ICSTI), among others.
QIAO Xiaodong, ISTIC engineer-in-chief, attended an ICSU/ICSTI annual meeting held
in March 2012. WU Yishan, ISTIC Deputy Director General, participated in the 7th
UNESCO/IFAP council meeting held in April 2012. UNESCO official website reported
in its news column the IFAP training activities sponsored by ISTIC since 2003 under
the title of “IFAP contributes to improving livelihoods in rural China".
7.1.2 Collaborations with international organizations
ISTIC is more than willing to work with its counterpar ts in other countries, in
an effort to promote the basic researches and services in the area of S&T
information. For example, i t has established a routine cooperative tie with Japan
Science and Technology Agency (JST) and Korea Institute of Scientific and Technical
Information (KISTI). It also created an ISTICTHOMSON REUTERS Joint Lab for Scientometrics,
an ISTIC- Millennium Institute(MI) Joint Lab, and the ISTIC-ELSEVIER Journals Evaluation
In 2012, ISTIC signed the cooperation accords with Japan Science and Technology
Agency (JST) and Thomson Reuters Corporation, and inked a separate memorandum of
understanding on cooperation with the Greek National Documentation Centre (EKT),
and the Fraunhofer Institute for Systems and Innovation Research (Fraunhofer-ISI).
It also inked an accord with ELSEVIER to set up an ISTIC-ELSEVIER Journals Evaluation
Center. A tripartite meeting jointly sponsored by ISTIC, Japan Science and Technology
Agency (JST) and the Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information(KISTI),
was held in the same year to discuss collaborations in the area of S&T information.
7.2 International exchanges
7.2.1 International visits
In 2012, ISTIC implements 30 international visits. Some 55 ISTIC employees visited
25 countries or regions for scholarly exchanges or cooperation, in an effort to
broaden ISTIC's international exchanges.
7.2.2 Overseas groups to ISTIC
In 2012, some 43 overseas groups or delegations, including the ones from Hong Kong,
Macao and Taiwan, visited ISTIC either on a study tour or for attending an international
conference, or for collaborative researches. Lalla Aïcha Ben Barka, Assistant Director-General
for UNESCO’s Africa Department, and Oliver Dumon, Managing Director of Elsevier’s
Academic & Government Research Markets also visited ISTIC.
